Garden update July 28

The high summer heat is taking a toll on the garden with most vegetables being on the decline. We will continue to pick eggplant, okra, jalapenos, banana and bell peppers until the first frost. That's hard to believe but that's based on past history so it's somewhat accurate. The figs are doing quite well too as we pick 6-8 every day now. I also late planted some tomatoes about 6 weeks ago so hopefully we'll have some late August or September tomatoes too.

Garden Update 7/21

It's been a slow week in the garden because of the afternoon storms and being out of town most days last week. We did pick a good number of smaller sized tomatoes, banana peppers, eggplant, and figs. The garden is starting to play out a bit with all the plants showing the stress  of summer but I'm still eating sandwiches with homemade tomatoes.

Garden Update July 12

We are now canning tomatoes every 3-4 days which was the goal when we started out. The figs are now coming in, we are picking 10 or so every other day. We also picked okra,  green beans, cucumbers, eggplant and banana pepper. I love the afternoon rain and cooler temperatures we've had this week, showers the last three days have certainly helped the garden.

Garden update July 7

We picked tomatoes 20-30, green beans, jalapenos, eggplant, okra and figs today.
We also canned 4 more quarts of whole tomatoes and will more than likely be canning tomatoes again in the next couple of days.
The very hot weather, upper 90's, is beginning to stress the plants but it's supposed to cool down into the low 90's next week so that will be helpful.

Biggest Harvest yet

Whether it was the 2 inches plus of rain we had Sunday or the time of the season, today was a very good harvest. We picked tomatoes in the 30-40 range, 18 cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, cherry tomatoes and okra.
Needless to say we are canning pickles again today and probably tomatoes tomorrow. Today's dinner will include sauteed green beans and ratatouille.

Hot weather but still picking vegetables

It's been hot, 108 for the last two days, but we're still picking vegetables. We could use some rain and cooler weather though, like the mid 90's.
This morning we picked mostly tomatoes and green beans but also cucumbers, jalapenos and the first okra of the season.
The picture of the tomatoes show what we have on hand now, and that's after canning on Friday. The other pic is green beans picked today with many more on the way.
